THE WHY
Why Rome? Rome is at the heart of the Italian Peninsula. Bounded by the Apennine mountains East and by the Tyrrhenian sea West. It is right in the middle of transitional land, which harbours an incredible diversity of ecosystems, protected habitats and species.
The landscape ranges from dry and aromatic Mediterranean scrub, to cool and vast broadleaved forests and all the way up to the 2000m+ white limestone mountain summits. Rome is therefore the perfect hub to access some of the most wild nature that Italy has to offer.
I like to define this the Roman Backcountry. A complex mosaic of ecosystems where you will find beauty not only in its untouched wilderness but also in those places shaped by the passage of different people through history.
Our Story
Roman Wilderness Tours was born from the desire to enhance and give the well deserved value to the beautiful wilderness of central Italy. The backcountry of its Capital. I believe visitors miss such an amazing part of what this country can offer. Food, History and Art, would not be complete without the source of all this humanistic richness. What inspired and what gave birth to all of this rich culture?
The Land. Where all originates from.
The Mountains, the Flora, the Wildlife, the Geology, its the natural heritage that laid the foundations. It is what has supported, inspired and shaped the many centuries of human expression which have painted every inch of this country.
